Bio
Senegalese midfielder Amadou Mbengue joined the club in September 2022, having impressed on trial following his departure from French club Metz.
He began his career with FC Melun, on the outskirts of Paris before moving to the North East of the country to sign for Metz.
It was here where the now 20-year-old made his first team debut, coming off the bench in the third minute of an away defeat to Angers, making his first start later that month at home to Rennes.
He went on to make 12 appearances for Les Grenats, however they were relegated, with Mbengue’s final appearance coming away to PSG against a star-studded line up that included Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar at the Parc des Princes.
A Senegal youth international, following his arrival in Berkshire, Mbengue agreed a short term deal with the club and made his debut as a substitute in our 1-0 win away to Wigan Athletic, and made his first start away to Swansea City in October. His first goal was the match-winner against Coventry in December - the following month, he extended his deal until the end of the season and scored away at Old Trafford in our FA Cup encounter at Manchester United.
Despite the Royals' relegation in 2023, Mbengue opted to return to RG2 on a new two-year deal ahead of our League One campaign.
