Reading Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Tom Carroll on a short term contract until the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

The deal will be completed following EFL and The FA ratification, and will see the midfielder join up with the Royals for the remaining 13 Sky Bet League One fixtures of the season.

First Team Manager Noel Hunt said, "We're delighted to bring in a player of Tom's experience into the building to bolster our options in the final stages of the season.

He's someone who has played a huge number of games across the EFL and Premier League, and as a person he is just the kind of character we are looking to recruit into our squad."

Carroll began his football journey signing up to the youth setup at Tottenham Hotspur in 2008, he would go on to sign professional terms with Spurs in the summer of 2010 after impressing in the Academy.

A season long loan move to QPR would see Carroll make 26 league appearans as the West London outfit secured promotion via the PLay-Offs to the Premier League. A further loan to Premier League Swansea City in 2014/15 would follow, with the Swans securing an impressive 8th place finish under the guidance of Garry Monk.

His first goal for Tottenham would come against Monaco in the Europa League in December 2015, before his name was on the scoresheet in the Premier League for the first time on Boxing Day of that month.

With game time limited in North London, Carroll made a permanent move to Swansea City in January 2017 on a three year deal. In his first full season in the Mumbles Swansea were relegated to the second tier, and a loan to Aston Villa would follow for the final stages of 2018/19 - making his debut for the second city outfit against the Royals in a 0-0 draw.

Following the termination of his contract at Swansea City, he would make permanent transfers back to QPR, to Ipswich Town, Exeter City, and most recently MK Dons for the first half of this campaign. During his time in Buckinghamshire, he would make 16 appearances in all competitions, creating two goals in the process. His time at Stadium MK ended at the beginning of February, before penning a short term deal with the Royals earlier today.
