Wycombe visit RG2 this Saturday afternoon

Looking to bounce back from defeat on Tuesday night away at Blackpool, the Royals take on the Chairboys in Saturday's early kick off at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

It's still all to play for in both the Play-Off and automatic promotion races in Sky Bet League One, and Mike Dodds' side will provide another difficult test in Saturday's early kick off.

In the build-up to the local derby, we've profiled our visitors in the Opposition Report, read on for full details.

FORM

Wycombe arrive in Berkshire third in Sky Bet League One, looking to chase down second placed Wrexham. Fresh off the back of a 0-0 draw with bottom of the table Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday, the Chairboys will be looking to make it three wins in four games following victories against Rotherham United and Lincoln City.

A tough team to beat, Wycombe have lost just three games since the turn of the year, with two of those defeats coming against the top two. The Buckinghamshire outfit currently sit third place after 39 games, winning 21, drawing 12 and losing only 6 games amassing a total of 75 points.

Earlier in the season Noel Hunt took the Royals for the first time as permanent Manager of the First Team, with the sides playing out a 1-1 draw at Adams Park.

ONE TO WATCH - RICHARD KONE

Having joined the Chairboys in January 2024, Richard Kone has been on fire for the boys from Buckinghamshire and sits atop the Sky Bet League One goalscorer charts with 18 goals.

The Ivorian striker was a prolific goal scorer in the Essex Senior League with Athletic Newham, courting attention from a host of Premier League and EFL clubs.

He burst onto the scene with a goal on his first appearance against West Ham U21s in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy and added three further strikes before also netting on the opening day of the 2024/25 campaign.

THE GAFFER - MIKE DODDS

38 year old Mike Dodds joined The Chairboys back in February, taking over from the popular Matt Bloomfield. The Wycombe job is Dodds' first full-time managerial position, but that does not mean he is inexperienced. Dodds spent time in the Birmingham City youth setup, helping to develop players such as Jude Bellingham, Che Adams and Nathan Redmond.

After an eleven year spell at the Blues, Dodds moved north to Sunderland where he made a name as a successful coach and assistant manager. He took interim charge on two separate occasions for the Mackems, including one spell which lasted 13 games.

Since taking over at Adams Park, Dodds has won four of his ten games in charge drawing four and losing three.

FROM THE VAULT

Reading's last victory over Wycombe was back in November 2023. Following a entire calendar year without an away victory, the Royals went to Adams Park and took all three points with goals coming from former Chairboys man Lewis Wing and Reading academy product Sam Smith which sparked wild scenes in the away end.

You can relive that win above.
