Reading Football Club and Jökull Andrésson have officially come to a mutual agreement over the termination of the goalkeeper’s contract with the club.

The 23-year-old has been with the Royals since 2017, having moved from his homeland of Iceland to join his brother Axel in RG2.

Whilst on the books with the club, Andrésson gained further development opportunities with loan spells at Hungerford Town, Exeter City, Morecambe, Stevenage, Carlisle United, and most recently Afturelding in his native Iceland.

In his spell with Afturelding, the club where he spent his formative Academy years, he was able to help his team secure promotion to the Icelandic top tier via the end of the season Play-Offs.

He also enjoyed international recognition, playing for Iceland’s Under 17, 19 & 21 sides, whilst also gaining a cap for the full senior team when they faced Uganda in 2022.

Jökull leaves the Royals after seven years, with the very best wishes from everyone at the club.
