Reading FC U21 Women knowing a win on Wednesday, with other results to go their win, would see them crowned South Premier Women Champions.

A double from Powis (11’, 28’) and two more in the second half from Wozniak (68’) & Bradley (90’) ensured a victory over second place AFC Sudbury last Wednesday meaning the Royals extended their lead to 6 points with just 3 games to play.

A victory over 7th placed Chelsea FC Blenheim U21s, would mean AFC Sudbury, Barking Abbey & Northampton would need to win to keep their title aspirations alive.

Liam Thorne’s Royals are in the driving seat towards a league and cup double, but know the work is not done yet.

Inside the Camp: Tia Johnson

Still beaming off cup success last week, and scoring the all-important leveller in the final minutes of the game, Johnson has praised her side’s professionalism and focus claiming they are all still hungry for success.

“Since the final, everyone has been on a real high.

“There’s been a noticeable step up in training, the vibes are good, and everyone is enjoying the moment we’re in right now.

“Even before the final, we all felt great about our game, had a real sense of momentum behind us as we’d been playing really well in the league, so winning that cup just gave us the boost we needed going into these final few games.

“Now, after last Wednesday’s result, we feel how close we are, we want it, we’re hungry for it, so it’s a case of going again against Chelsea Blenheim, and giving it everything”.

Opponent watch: Chelsea FC Blenheim U21

7th placed Chelsea Blenheim come into Wednesday’s fixture 19 points adrift of the Royals despite playing two more games, being through 17 games, our opponents have won 5, drawn 4, and lost on 8 occasions.

Despite the points gap, if the last meeting is anything to go by, Reading will have to be at their best having played out a narrow 3-2 victory. The Royals were in command, with a 2-0 lead with goals from Rasmussen and Meadows Tuson, Chelsea pulled it back with two goals in 15 minutes, but it was more late celebration for our young Royals, as a fine goal from Meadows Tuson in the 90+2’ minute secured all three points.
