Exciting Talent Jessie Stapleton Joins Reading FC Women on Loan from West Ham United Women
Reading FC Women are delighted to announce the acquisition of Jessie Stapleton, who joins the Royals on loan from WSL side West Ham United for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.
The versatile 18-year-old defender becomes Liam Gilbert’s second signing of the January transfer window, as well as our second loan signing from the Hammers following Halle Houssein's arrival in the summer, and is set to wear the coveted number 3 jersey for Reading.

Hailing from the Republic of Ireland, Stapleton brings a wealth of experience despite her young age. The promising defender embarked on her football journey in Ireland, with spells at Cherry Orchard, Peamount United, and Shamrock Rovers from 2013 to 2020. Her impressive performances earned her a move to Women’s National League side Shelbourne in 2021, where she continued to shine on the pitch.
During her time with Shelbourne, Stapleton showcased her prowess in all areas of the game, displaying an impressive goal-scoring record for a defender. With 21 goals in 71 appearances, her contributions played a vital role in Shelbourne's success. In 2022, she played a pivotal part in helping her team secure the league and cup double, adding silverware to her growing list of accomplishments.
Stapleton's journey continued as she made a move to West Ham United in July 2023. Armed with considerable experience in the international arena, she has been a consistent presence in the Republic of Ireland squad throughout her youth career. Her senior debut came as a halftime substitute against the Philippines in a 1-0 win during a match held in Turkey in June 2022.

Boss Liam Gilbert expressed his excitement about securing the services of the talented defender, stating, "We are thrilled to have Jessie join us for the remainder of the season. Her versatility, experience, and abilities she possess in the defensive third gives us a new dimension and makes her a valuable addition to our squad. We look forward to seeing her contribute to our team's success."
We're thrilled to have you join us Jessie, and look forward to seeing you represent the blue and white hoops of the Royals.
