REMINDER

It is important to reiterate to our supporters that no matter the strength of feeling – and as a club we are fully aware and understand fans’ frustrations - it is unacceptable for any supporters to enter the field of play before, during or after the match or to throw missiles of any description onto the pitch.

We acknowledge that fans have the right to a voice and to make that voice heard, but any supporter protests which disrupt the running of a matchday or the club’s day-to-day operations, threaten to directly impact the staff, the players and other fans. Disruption to matchday operations can lead to significant penalties and fines for the club, which cannot possibly aid the club’s cause.

Supporters in breach of the rules may also receive a criminal record or a banning order, so we would strongly advise against any supporter action which might bring the club into disrepute and impact the running of this or future club fixtures.

THE OPPOSITION

The Valiants kicked off the 2023-24 season with a 7-0 defeat to Barnsley, and achieving their first win of the season against us at Vale Park back in August.

That victory kicked off a 6-game unbeaten run, which briefly saw them enter the automatic promotion spots, before going on an 11-game winless run, that dropped them back into the midfield.

Their last 7 have seen them win 3, drawing and losing twice apiece, leaving them 14th on 30 points.

ONE TO WATCH: Ethan Chislett

The 25-year-old South African joined the visitors in the summer for free from AFC Wimbledon, starting brightly with 6 goal involvements in all competitions before the end of September.

After a lull, the attacking midfielder has recently hit form again, scoring 5 and assisting 4.in his last 6 games.

Whilst The Burslem Boys' top scorer both in the league (8) and in all competitions (11), is Ben Garrity

Royals fans may remember him as the scorer of the winner in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

It's a first trip to the Select Car Leasing Stadium since New Years Day 2002 for the visitors, a game in which we ran out 2-0 winners, thanks to a late Jamie Cureton double.

We also won 1-0 when they visited the year before, thanks to a strike from Martin Butler, the last 6 home games against the Valiants have ended in 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats.

Overall, the Royals have 25 wins, Port Vale have 24, and there have been 14 draws.

REF WATCH

Ross Joyce is the man in the middle for this one, marking his thirteenth League One game of the year.

Andrew Hickman and Adrian Tranter will be running the line, with Chris Wade as the fourth official.
