Goalscoring midfielder picks up fan voted award

You voted in your thousands, and we can proudly reveal Lewis Wing has been selected as the 2023-24 Player of the Season. Our vice captain has been in fine form throughout the campaign, and secured a huge 60% of the vote.

An ever present in Rubén Sellés' side this term, Lewis has really caught the eye with a series of stunning long distance goals both at the Select Car Leasing Stadium and on the road.

Whether it's the half volleyed effort at home to Port Vale, his ferocious strike away at Barnsley, or perhaps his finessed set piece goals at Bristol Rovers and Burton Albion - our midfield maestro could certainly have held his own Goal of the Season competition with his haul of 11 goals across the season.

It's not just finding the net himself where our number 29 has contributed however, he has also weighed in with no fewer than 11 assists in 2023-24. His build up play and keen eye for a pass alongside his teammates has proved to be invaluable in a period where the squad have gone from strength to strength.

Huge congratulations to Lewis from all of our supporters and staff for a magnificent maiden campaign as a Royal, and well done for writing your name into our club history books.

Special mentions

Although Wing took the overall award we must pay a special mention to the two players who finished second and third, both of which have also completed their debut season with the Royals.

Tyler Bindon marked a stunning opening season in professional football by securing 2nd place in the supporter vote. Having made the long journey east from LAFC last summer, the youngster has developed fantastically throughout the season, and has shown maturity in his game well beyond his years. His partnership with fellow centre back Amadou Mbengue has been a huge catalyst for the Royals fine form in the second half of the campaign, and he has also contributed at the other end of the pitch with goals against Leyton Orient and Lincoln City.

Your third place Royal was Harvey Knibbs, whose goalscoring form has seen him achieve great aclaim from both the support base and his peers. Signing for the Royals last summer he has been an ever present in the line-up, contributing 11 goals and six assists in all competitions. Perhaps most notably the forward scored a brace away at Carlisle United, in a fixture that saw over 1,500 make the long trip North. The images of Knibbs celebrating in front of the supporters have been a key indicator of the closeness between our players and fans, with our number 7 proving to be a great link between the two.
