Dorsett on an important home win against Carlisle

We know that we’ve had a tough start to the campaign. But we’re finding a bit of a rhythm. A 5-1 win against Carlisle United was evidence enough of what can be achieved when we’re ruthless in both boxes.

And Jeriel Dorsett, who has come in to start in each of the last four league fixtures, was delighted to make it consecutive wins with the midweek victory.

“I’m buzzing for the win to be honest!” he said. “I felt like we needed it as a team. And hopefully we can keep building from here.

“It’ll boost everyone’s morale. We’ve been a bit kicked here and there. So today’s win is massive for us and we want to keep building from here and look forward to the future a bit.

“We’ll all get some confidence from it and hopefully we will carry that on in the next few games as well.

“When we get that consistency of winning games, we’ll be in a much better place – that will allow us to climb.

“Now we have a game in the FA Cup, which is a challenge – but it’ll be a good game and we’ll go out there for the win again!”

As well as playing a key contribution in some key defensive moments in the second half, it was Dorsett’s overlapping run that led to our opener against the Cumbrians.

He didn’t give up the ghost – he raced to the byline and sent in a cross which was fortuitously touched in off a Carlisle leg. A nice moment, and a case of playing the full-back position to its fullest.

“Honestly, I didn’t even know it went in!” he said. “I crossed it in, hoping it would find one of our players, and the next thing I hear is cheering, and everyone's running over to me! I’m happy about that.

“I’ve played at left-back before – I played some games there last season as well when I was on loan. The gaffer asked me to play there and I’m more than happy to help the team out.

“It was a challenge to the start – playing the position, getting game-time in, building match fitness. It has been bit of a challenge – but I’m here for it!”

And a final word on the fans?

“The fans were top class. They’re always brilliant, and give us the support that we need.”
