“Its been a while…but it’ll be a welcomed return for the girls”
Reading FC Women return to the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Sunday, after six weeks without a home game.
Their last game in Berkshire was back in January, as a record crowd of over 5,000 people came to see the Royals in Barclays WSL action against Manchester United.
On Sunday afternoon, Reading will be welcoming West Ham United which in the past have been high action encounters with an average of 2.5 goals per game, and Chambers speaks about the battle coming up and a crucial window of games…
“We’ve always had good battles against West Ham in the last few seasons.
“You look at their results in the league this season, and they’ve probably been a little bit too inconsistent for their liking, but on their day they are a really good side. You just have to look at their draw against Arsenal, they can defend well, but also have plenty of options up the top of the pitch to cause real problems.
“For us going into tomorrow’s game, we know where we are right now, and how big three points would be for us.
“We’ve taken a lot of time to analyse West Ham, identify some consistencies, and now it’s a case of executing the game plan effectively, as well as maximising on what we’re really good at.
“Last weekend [against Tottenham] was a good moment for us, not just progressing in the cup, but also building some confidence to drive us into the next few games.
“Playing at home again comes at a nice time too. We’ve not been there for about six weeks, and you can see the lift in our performances when we are infront of our fans. You saw how competitive we were against Manchester United, and with that level of performance, we can be hopeful to come out with the right result.
“We’ve been in this league for a while, and I’d have to say this is probably the most open it’s ever been. From those competing at the top, to those fighting to stay in the league.
“There’s probably around 3, 4 teams who are in this battle, and looking at our next handful of fixtures, we feel a sense of opportunity to make a statement of our intent.
“But we’re not looking at upcoming games yet, for us right now we start this weekend against West Ham, and we want to come off that pitch pleased with our performance to give us something to build on over the next couple of weeks."
