Reading Football club would like to wish the very best of luck for the future to striker Yakou Meite, who has opted to reject the offer of a new contract in League One and will leave the club this summer.

Meite, 27, joined the Royals seven years ago as a raw but talented young forward from Paris Saint Germain.

His first goal for the club came in a 3-2 defeat away to Derby and, after a spell on loan back in France with Sochaux, Yakou went on to record 109(+56) appearances in blue and white hoops, scoring 47 goals during his time in RG2.

Battling back from a cruciate ligament injury which had ruled him out for the majority of 2021-22, he found the back of the net four times last season - his last goal for the club came in our final home game of last season, scoring a late equaliser against Wigan in front of a packed Eamonn Dolan Stand.

A player who always gave his all for this football club, we would like to wish him well in taking the next step of his career.

Merci et bonne chance pour l'avenir, Yakou!
