Royals stopper Jökull Andrésson has today completed an emergency loan move to League One side Exeter City.

First choice City keeper Jamal Blackman took a knock at the weekend so our Icelandic international has been drafted in and will be eligible for a home fixture against Barnsley on Tuesday night when the Tykes come to St James Park.

The 21-year-old will also be part of the Grecians squad that travels to Stadium MK at the weekend, when City take on Mark Jackson’s MK Dons on the road.

Exeter will offer familiar surroundings to Andrésson, who spent a succession of emergency loans at St James Park two seasons ago before completing a longer-term loan switch to the south-west during the second half of the 2020-21 campaign.

During his time as a Grecian that season, Andrésson registered a total of 32 starts, keeping an impressive 11 clean sheets - including a run of 311 League Two minutes without conceding during April 2021.

Exeter City sit in 12th place in League One but lost 2-0 at Portsmouth at the weekend – Marlon Pack and Joe Morrell earning John Mousinho a win in his first game as a manager.

We would like to wish Jökull the very best of luck in both fixtures.

Welsh youth international Ben Purcell, meanwhile, has also extended his Youth Loan for a second month at Farnborough.

The 18-year-old midfielder most recently came off the bench in Boro’s 4-1 win at Dulwich Hamlet earlier this month and he could feature when the National League South side are due to travel to Chippenham on Tuesday night.
