Reading Football Club are delighted to announce that striker Andy Carroll has signed a new contract with the Royals, keeping him in blue and white hoops until the summer of 2024.

Andy’s current short-term contract was due to expire after this weekend’s Championship meeting with QPR, but the experienced frontman has this afternoon completed the paperwork on a new deal which will see him complete this season in RG2 and lead the Royals’ line in 2023-24.

Head of Football Operations Mark Bowen said, “Andy is the consummate professional, on and off the pitch. We were thrilled to be able to bring him back to the club in September and it has been our priority ever since to secure his services for a longer period.

“Andy is clearly enjoying his football at Reading and we are very pleased to have a player of his pedigree fighting in our corner. So I’m delighted that he has agreed to this new deal.”

The former Newcastle United, Liverpool, West Ham United and England striker first joined the Reading ranks last season, scoring twice in 6(+2) appearances as a Royal – including a memorable finish in a dramatic 3-2 win at Swansea City.

After spending the second half of last season at West Bromwich Albion, Carroll returned to RG2 in September and has scored four goals in 10(+7) appearances under Paul Ince.

He found the back of the net from the penalty spot at both QPR and Norwich City and he has scored twice at the Select Car Leasing Stadium this season - in home wins over Bristol City in October and then against Swansea City in our final fixture on home turf in 2022.

Manager Paul Ince said, “AC is the perfect example to follow for any young striker – not simply in the chances he creates or the goals he scores, but the phenomenal work rate he shows in every minute of every game, the dedication he demonstrates on a cold, wet, windy morning in training, the attitude and experience he brings into the dressing room…that is his DNA as a footballer. He is a real asset to this football club and I’m so pleased he has agreed to be part of the progress we are trying to make.”
