All the key info for our meeting with Rotherham United
Two teams defeated… we march on into Round Three. And if our Under-18s want to take part in the fourth round of this season’s FA Youth Cup, they’ll have to overcome Rotherham United on Thursday evening.
We already know who we could face in Round Four, and where… but we need to defeat the Millers first, so it’s very much a case of one game at a time.
So here’s the full preview of our upcoming tie under the Select Car Leasing Stadium floodlights this week…
Match details
It’s a floodlit encounter: Rotherham United visit on Thursday 14 December 2023 (7pm kick-off).
How we got here
We breezed through the first round; we laboured in the second. Our trip to Oxford City saw us lead as early as the fourth minute through Shay Spencer; Kiyan Coke Miles Smith, Emmanuel Osho and Joseph Barough added in a 4-1 win.
But we were taken to extra-time by Forest Green Rovers in the second round. Coke Miles Smith had us ahead in the first half… Olly Sully struck after the 90th minute had passed to force another 30. But, thankfully, Spencer and Barough were on hand to prevent the need for spot-kicks: 3-1 AET.
Rotherham, meanwhile, haven’t had to work to get here… by virtue of their senior team playing in the Championship, they enter the Youth Cup at this stage.
But if their recent form in other competitions is anything to go by, they have goals in them. Amazingly, three of their last four fixtures have ended 4-3 in their favour – against each of Notts County, Bolton and Mansfield. The other was a 5-1 win over Walsall.

What’s at stake
Like the last round, we go into the game with the draw for the next stage already conducted.
And for the winner, a tie away at either Sheffield Wednesday or Hemel Hempstead Town awaits – they meet on Sunday after their original fixture was postponed. It was the pitch at Hillsborough that was waterlogged, forcing the game to be pushed back by eight days.
