Liam Gilbert and Reading were minutes away from securing a win on the opening day, until Crystal Palace snatched an equaliser right at the end.
After the match, the Royals Boss was quick to highlight the positives from the players having only been together for a matter of days.
“There were some moments in the game today that were good and positive, we had to dig in, and did really well to then get ourselves infront.
"But then conceding in the moment we did, you can’t help but feel frustrated, but with that said, we’ve only had five training sessions so to be able to put in those fundamental principles I’m really happy.
“As a coach, I’m not sure we can ever be 100% satisfied, but they put into action a lot of what we have worked on both on and off the ball, and it now gives us a platform to build on into next week and the campaign.
“For us, we will continue to learn as a group, developing together, and it’s a testament to everyone involved about how they’ve conducted themselves to put in the performance we have.
“It’s been a whirlwind since arriving, it’s adjustment for everyone, me included, but I cannot ask much more from what I’ve been given, and now we plan ahead to Saturday which will be another big test.”
