Lewis Wing gives his thoughts on defeat to Port Vale

Reading fell to a 1-0 defeat away at Vale Park on Saturday - a tough-to-take result against the Valiants.

Summer signing Lewis Wing was determined to set the record straight in the coming weeks.

"I am very disappointed, as we demand a lot from ourselves," he said. "We came here to win and when that doesn’t happen everyone is disappointed.

"It takes a while for the whole team to gel. Although we are down now, I wouldn’t beat ourselves up too much... but there is a lot of hard work to get where we want to be.

"It’s a long season, so the more we work on the training pitch the better it is going to be. We are two games in, so we have got a lot more games to put things right."

Reading started the stronger of the two teams, but Port Vale came out fighting in the second half after Andy Carroll missed a penalty which would have given the Royals the lead.

But there's little time to dwell - Tuesday night against Cheltenham Town, back on our own patch, is the next chance for the points.

“I think they won every first and second ball today, and it showed on the pitch," Wing continued. "If Andy’s penalty goes in that changes the game, so they gained a bit of momentum from that.

"They deserved to win, but we will get back to work tomorrow to put things right. It's good for us that the game is going on Tuesday and not Saturday - we've got to get our heads down, forget this result, and go again Tuesday and put things right.

"The fans were very good last week and very good today. I feel sorry for all the travelling fans that have come all this way... it's not a short journey and we let them down today.

"But we go again on Tuesday, where we can put things right and put a smile back on their face.”
