Royals boss named on four-man shortlist by the EFL
We’re very pleased to announce that Reading manager Paul Ince has been named on the four-man shortlist for Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month for August 2022.
Six games… four wins! A fantastic 12 points earned across the course of the month represented a fantastic return in the early stages of the campaign, which temporarily saw the Royals sitting top of the pile in the Championship standings.
It all began with a home fixture against Cardiff City; despite going a goal down early on, the boss and his team turned it around through a Shane Long spot-kick and a stunning winner from Tom Ince.
After falling to defeat in Rotherham, the boys responded perfectly with an utterly dominant performance and a 3-0 win at home against Blackburn Rovers – three days later, Middlesbrough were defeated 1-0 thanks to a Tyrese Fornah thunderbolt.
And when debutant Naby Sarr headed in the winner as we triumphed 1-0 in Millwall – a third straight win without conceding – that put us top of the tree!
A huge credit to Paul Ince, his coaches, the squad… and all of our supporters who’ve backed us in the opening weeks of the campaign! A hugely deserved nomination.
As usual, stiff competition for the award.
Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom – one of two managers to get the better of Reading last month – is in the running after an undefeated August for the Blades. Also listed are Norwich manager Dean Smith and Watford boss Rob Edwards, with both the Canaries and the Hornets registering some important victories early on in the season.
The Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel comprises former Barnsley manager Danny Wilson, Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman, and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies. The winner will be announced on Friday 9 September 2022.
