Three points on the road for Young Royals...
Noel Hunt’s side followed up last week’s 4-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday by getting the better of another Yorkshire side today as Hull City were beaten 2-1 at the Dransfield Stadium, thanks to a double from Claudio Osorio.
The hosts had the first chance of the match when Louie Chorlton put in a cross to the far post by Sincere Hall couldn’t force a save from Coniah Boyce-Clarke in the Royals goal as his header went wide.
However, the hosts didn’t have long to wait to open the scoring when captain Matty Jacob whipped in a cross into the six-yard box with Jim Simms’ outstretched leg diverting the ball past Boyce-Clarke to give the Tigers the lead.
The Royals responded by winning a corner, with Dejan Tetek picking out John Clarke but the defender was unable to get his header on target.
Two minutes later the visitors were level thanks to Claudio Osorio. Kelvin Ehibatiomhan did well to win the ball and turn to put a ball over the top to the midfielder who brought the ball down and fired past Macauley.
Harry Wood looked to put the Tigers back in front however his effort from the edge of the box was saved by Boyce-Clarke.
His opposite number was then called into action when Ehibhationham forced Macauley into a good save after the striker flicked a cross goalward.
Half time: Hull City 1-1 Reading
The hosts got the second half under way but it was the Royals that went the closest to adding to the score line when Nelson Abbey shot from distance and was unlucky to see his strike come off the bar and bounce out.
Although just before the hour mark the Royals did get their goal when Osorio grabbed his second of the game when he met John Clarke’s cross and it bounced into the net!
Ehibhatiomhan then almost got on the scoresheet when he shot at goal but Macauley denied him.
At the other end, Hall attempted a long range effort but it flew over the cross bar with Boyce-Clarke having it covered.
There was late pressure from Hull in the shape of first a Harry Lovick volley which missed the target before Boyce-Clarke was needed to secure the points when substitute Hinds’s shot was well saved by the ‘keeper in the final minute!
The result leaves Noel Hunt’s side 5th in the Professional Development League Southern Section ahead of an away match at Queens Park Rangers on Friday.
