Right-back takes supporters’ award at Gala Dinner

We are very pleased to announce that Andy Yiadom has been voted by our supporters as the Men’s Player of the Season for 2021-22.

Supporters’ Trust at Reading hosted in-person votes at our home encounters with Cardiff City and Swansea City, and they were added to our online tally – and Yiadom’s name rose to the top. The presentation was made at the 150th Anniversary Gala Dinner at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Wednesday evening.

38 appearances, and 100% effort in every one of them. Flying up and down the right flank to affect matters at both end of the pitch; supporting the attack and putting his body on the line in the defensive cause.

And it’s a measure of the man that he only gave himself a rest last Saturday after survival had been confirmed… for the previous month he had played through the pain with a broken toe, and contributed heavily to our late points haul which has us mathematically safe with two games remaining.

Throughout the campaign, rarely has he been unavailable. We did miss his presence in the new year when he was away at the Africa Cup of Nations with Ghana… and in March, he played his part in sending the Black Stars to the World Cup later this year!

Energy and enthusiasm, married with no shortage of quality. A leader on and off the pitch. Capable of producing big moments. Assets that have been recognised by the Royals faithful.

And now his name will be forever etched into our roll of honour as the Player of the Season for the 2021-22 campaign. Congratulations, Andy!
