Goalkeeper Luke Southwood has this evening put pen to paper on a season-long loan deal with Cheltenham Town.

The Royals stopper has made a total of 30 appearances between the posts since making his first team debut at Reading two years ago, last featuring in our defeat at Nottingham Forest in March 2022.

Luke has previously enjoyed loan spells with Bath City, Eastleigh and north of the border at Hamilton Academical and he will now look to earn a regular first team spot as a Robin in 2022-23.

Cheltenham Town finished in 15th place in the third tier last season, the Gloucestershire side conceding a total of 80 goals in their 46 game-campaign in 2021-22.

Southwood could make his Whaddon Road debut next weekend when Wade Elliott’s men open their League One campaign at home to Peterborough United on Saturday 30 July.

Everyone at Reading Football Club would like to wish Luke the very best of luck for his season in League One with the Robins.
