22-year-old centre-half Tom Holmes has been handed the vice captaincy of the club he has been with since the age of eight!
Manager Paul Ince has named the talented Academy graduate as his second in command behind new captain Andy Yiadom.
Holmes came right through our Academy ranks to make his professional debut in March 2018 – just days before his 18th birthday. Tom has since established himself as a first team regular at Reading.
He now has 75 senior team appearances to his name and Tom put pen to paper on a brand new three-year-deal with the club this summer, committing his future to the Royals until 2025.

Last season he wore the captain’s armband for the first time, leading a young side out in our Carabao Cup clash against Swansea in August 2021. And he also scored his first professional goal in 2021-22 – a spectacular overhead effort at home to Hull City last December.
Manager Paul Ince said, “Tom is a fantastic defender who is committed to the cause from the first to the final minute in every match he plays. He is young, his game continues to develop and grow, but his ability is unquestionable and his leadership skills – even at the young age he still is - are so important to the dynamics of this team. He is Reading Football Club through and through and I am certain he will go on to make an excellent captain in the future.”
