Reading Football Club are delighted to announce the arrival of midfielder Tyrese Fornah on a season-long loan from Nottingham Forest.
The 22-year-old central midfield man spent the second half of last season on loan in League One at Shrewsbury Town, impressing in 19 appearances for Steve Cotterill’s side. Now he arrives in Reading for a new challenge in 2022-23.
Head of Football Operations, Mark Bowen, said: “Adding to our midfield options became a high priority this summer but it was important we identified the right type of player and targeted characters who would be a good fit for this football club. Tyrese is a fit, strong, talented young midfielder who is full of promise and I am delighted he has agreed to join us for 2022-23.”

Fornah initially came through the Academy system at Brighton & Hove Albion before joining Forest’s youth ranks in the summer of 2018.
The highly-rated midfielder made his senior team debut in an FA Cup clash with Chelsea, coming off the bench to replace another former Royals loanee Alfa Semedo in the tie at Stamford Bridge.
A loan stint in Portugal with Casa Pia, cut short by the global pandemic, was followed by a full season in the south-west as he made 39(+4) for newly-promoted Plymouth Argyle in League One in 2020-21. He was in the matchday squad for every single game he spent at Home Park.

Fornah featured in the first team under Chris Hughton at the start of Forest’s promotion-winning campaign last year before arriving at New Meadow in the January transfer window. He made his Shrews debut as a substitute in a draw at Gillingham, before holding down a regular spot on the teamsheet to make a total of 17 starts for Town.
Now he is ready to take on the Championship as a Royal.
Manager Paul Ince said: “Tyrese will add power, presence, vision and energy to our midfield and this is a loan move which I believe will benefit both him in developing his game at Championship level and the club with the ability he can bring to the squad. I am looking forward to working with him out on the training pitch.”
