Goalkeeper drafted into squad for Uganda and South Korea friendly fixtures

We are pleased to announce that goalkeeper Jokull Andresson has been called up to the Iceland senior squad for the first time.

The 20-year-old stopper, who is currently on loan at League One side Morecambe, will travel to Antalya in Turkey this weekend, ahead of a double-header of friendly fixtures against Uganda and South Korea on neutral ground.

Uganda narrowly missed out on qualification to the Africa Cup of Nations this month by losing their final fixture to Malawi, while South Korea are preparing for competitive fixtures against Lebanon and Syria in the next month as part of their World Cup qualifying campaign.

Jokull has been capped by Iceland throughout various age-groups – his Under-21 debut for his nation came in October when he played the duration against in a 1-0 defeat to Portugal in a UEFA U21 Championship qualifying fixture in Reykjavik.

Brentford goalkeeper Patrik Gunnarsson has had to withdraw from the senior squad with injury – and that has paved the way for Jokull to be included in the Iceland national team squad for the first time, where he’ll link up with the likes of former Royal forward Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.

Congratulations on your call-up, Jokull!
