Chambers and Dowie on November’s shortlist for both Manager and Player of the Month award, following a successful month in the WSL and Conti Cup.
After a string of difficult results to start the season, the Royals boss tweaked the side which has seen a huge uplift in performances and results, winning three and drawing one in all competitions.
Before the international break at the end of October, Reading managed to get their first win of the campaign with a 3-0 win against Aston Villa, but unfortunately just as it seemed the side was about to start clicking, club football was put on hold as players went away for national duty.
Royals couldn’t afford for a slow start, as an important trip to Birmingham was first up, and a lot more than three points were at stake. An excellent second-half display helped the side to a 3-0 win courtesy of goals from Natasha Dowie and Deanne Rose.
The following week called for big character, as West Ham offered more of a threat, and took a 2-0 lead into half-time, the only two goals that Reading would go on to concede in the league for the rest of November. After what Chambers saw in the first-half, she was forced into a change bringing on Emma Harries, who ended up scoring in the final few minutes to secure a point.
The momentum continued to build with a 3-1 victory in the Conti Cup against Crystal Palace, and 2-0 win in the final league game against high-flying Seagulls with goals for Dowie and Harries.
As well as a positive team display throughout the month, Dowie has also enjoyed a successful spell in the season and has been selected for individual recognition with a nomination in the Player of the Month category after scoring two goals in three league games.
