First Team Coach and former Royals centre-half departs to continue his studies
We can confirm that John O’Shea has left his position as First Team Coach with the Royals to complete his pro license and embark on UEFA's Executive Master for International Players (MIP) course, a programme which is aimed at giving former footballers the professional skills needed to transition into a second career.
O’Shea, who played the final game of a glittering playing career in the blue and white hoops of Reading Football Club, rejoined the Royals in the summer of 2019 as First Team Coach.
The former Manchester United legend played an active part at the heart of our first team coaching set-up over the last two seasons, but he now returns to Manchester with his family with the blessing of the club and the very best wishes of all who have worked with him during his three years in RG2.

He said: "I am very sorry to leave a fantastic club with whom I ended my playing days and was fortunate enough to begin my coaching career,” John said. “I have enjoyed my time with Reading immensely and have loved working with the manager, his coaching team, the staff and a great group of players at Reading, but now is the right time for my family to move back to Manchester and for me to take on a new challenge."
We can also confirm that Assistant Manager Eddie Niedzwiecki has also officially left the club at the conclusion of his coaching contract at Reading.

The former Chelsea and Wales goalkeeper joined the Royals’ first team set-up in October 2019 and remained a valued member of the coaching staff under Veljko Paunovic throughout the course of last season.
We would like to wish both John and Eddie the very best of luck with the next chapters in their respective careers.
