Icelandic goalie joins Morecambe on emergency loan

19-year-old goalkeeper Jökull Andrésson has today joined Sky Bet League Two side Morecambe on a seven-day emergency loan deal.

It will be the second loan spell away from Madejski Stadium for the teenage stopper, following a stint with Exeter City earlier this season.

EFL clubs are able to sign goalkeepers on emergency loans for a week-long spell, provided that all other senior goalkeepers are unavailable to play – and the agreement can be extended seven days at a time if circumstances remain the same.

That resulted in Andrésson’s spell with the Grecians earlier this season being renewed several times and featuring a total of nine times… including against Morecambe! He played his part in a 2-2 stalemate at the Mazuma Stadium in a game that swung back and forth.

Now he takes temporary residence there and could debut against Colchester United this Saturday as the Shrimps look to push into the play-off positions. And that’s followed by a midweek visit to St James Park on Tuesday evening, where he could line up against the Exeter side which he had represented earlier this year.

Very best of luck for your loan with the Shrimps, Jökull!
