Sanne signs two and a half year deal with Royals

Reading Women Football Club is thrilled to announce the signing of midfielder Sanne Troelsgaard Nielsen, who will join the club on a two and a half year deal which will run till June 2024.

The 33-year-old comes with 15+ years’ experience playing in Sweden and Denmark with Haderslev FK, Brøndby IF and FC Rosengård – totaling over 450 first-team appearances.

Alongside her club career, Sanne is a regular presence for her national team Denmark, with over 160 caps scoring 50+ goals.

Sanne won’t have long to wait before introducing herself to the Royals’ faithful, as she will link up with her new teammates from the New Year and will aim to feature in the first game of 2022 against Leicester on Sunday 9th January at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Throughout her career, Sanne has enjoyed plenty of success from domestic success in the Elitedivisionen, winning the title twice in 2010-11 and 2012-13, as well as an individual honour, winning Denmark’s Player of the Year in 2011 following an impressive season scoring 29 goals in 15 matches for Skovbakken.

Alongside having a keen eye for goal from midfield, Sanne will bring an extra physical presence in the heart of the midfield, enabling her to match the high intensity that Reading have become recognised to playing.

When discussing her own attributes that she can offer her new team, the Dane brought the light her intelligence and work rate off the ball, being able to identify threats, working in a cohesive unit, and coping with pressure on the ball, all traits a manager looks for in a modern-day midfielder.

On this alone, it sounds like the perfect fit for both Sanne and Reading, and Chambers is excited to bring someone of Sanne’s stature to the club;

"Sanne is a great addition to the club," Chambers began. "She brings a wealth of experience in the women's game at international and champions league level.

"She is someone that wants to come and be a part of this growing group and make an impact in the league. Sanne is still so hungry to process and wants to push this club with the magnificent group I have already.

"I’m excited for her to be a part of this team and to continue the great work that is happening already."

Upon the arrival, will certainly bolster Chambers’ midfield options and talent that this Reading squad already have in their ranks, with the likes of Rachel Rowe, Brooke Chaplen, Chloe Peplow, as well as summer signing Justine Vanhaevermaet and academy graduate Tia Primmer. Injuries were beginning to take their toll on the Royals’ squad, but come to the New Year there will certainly be a battle for positions, something that should bring the best out of everyone and help Reading kick on once more.
