Pauno on Olise’s maiden goal and impressive all-round performance

A special moment in the career of Michael Olise… his cracking half-volley against Barnsley was the first goal in his fledgling career.

Naturally, the team comes first for manager Veljko Paunović – but he was delighted for the teenage attacker to get off the mark as a senior player as he continues to make strides in the game.

“The team always comes first – and it was a fantastic team performance,” Pauno said. “But out of that, we get individual performances.

“And Michael is another one who had a very good game, and scored a goal… I haven’t seem them all yet but I think it’ll be one of the most beautiful goals of the weekend.

“I’m very happy for Michael. He is on a fast track of maturity, working with this group.

“During the game, I saw moments where he was pushing the team and communicating – something that I want to see in young players.

“I saw that the veterans were supporting him, but also demanding from him. That’s important. He has to learn that this is his second season, so now the bar is raising and he has to match up.

“That’s going to follow in terms of his responsibilities in connection with the team and the impact that he has on the game with all the talent and football skill he has.”
