Goalkeeper links up with Grecians for short-term stint

19-year-old goalkeeper Jökull Andrésson has today joined Exeter City on a 7-day emergency loan spell – and is set to be eligible to represent the Grecians this evening as they travel to Leyton Orient.

EFL regulations allow clubs to sign goalkeepers on emergency loans, in the event that all other professional goalkeepers are unavailable through injury, suspension or international call-up.

With Royals Academy graduate Lewis Ward suffering an ankle injury at the weekend, and their other senior stopper Jonny Maxted sustaining a dislocated kneecap, Icelander Andrésson joins the Devon club in time for their fixture this evening at Brisbane Road.

Jökull was named on the Royals’ first-team bench for our Carabao Cup win against Colchester United on the opening day of the season; he has also represented our Under-23 side once this season in our 3-2 win against Leeds United at Bearwood.

The paperwork was completed before midday, in time for the Royals goalie to be available for this evening’s match, and the length of the initial loan spell also covers Exeter’s home fixture against Carlisle United on Saturday.
