18-year-old defender puts pen to paper on contract that runs until 2021
Reading Football Club are pleased to announce that Josh Hewitt has signed his first professional contract, committing his future to the Royals until the summer of 2021.
Hewitt, who turned 18 last September, made 12(+3) appearances in the first year of his scholarship last season.
And he has been a regular once more under Mikele Leigertwood and Michael Donaldson this season – starting 13 times for his age group so far.
Hewitt has scored five goals so far this season, notching against West Ham, Swansea City, Norwich City, Tottenham Hotspur and Middlesbrough so far this season.
Three of those five goals came from the penalty spot as the cool-headed centre-half has often been on spotkick duty in 2019-20. However, it was a finish in open play that saw us come from 3-0 down to win away at Boro in November and help our Under-18s make Premier League Cup progress to the semi-final stage this season!
Congratulations Josh and we look forward to seeing you continue your progress in blue and white hoops.
