Royals manager and vice-captain attend annual lecture

Reading FC Women manager Kelly Chambers and England’s most capped footballer Fara Williams were speakers at the University of Reading’s annual Edith Morley lecture on the subject of ‘Women in Sport: Overcoming and Succeeding’.

There was a full house at the Henley Business School on the Whiteknights Campus and the evening was hosted by Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Reading Parveen Yaqoob. Also in attendance was former Olympic rower Cath Bishop and the quartet of speakers was made up by current University of Reading student and captain of the netball first team, Alice Kirkup.

Both Chambers and Williams spoke on topics ranging from barriers that women in sport are confronted by, the pay-gap between men and women in professional football and their own philosophies and goals as women in sport, which is particularly prevalent with International Women’s Day on Sunday 8th March.
