After a 5-0 win away from home, this evening's encounter failed to live up to the same level of excitement - a tense goalless affair earning each side a point at Madejski Stadium.

The first chance of the game fell Reading's way; Gabe Osho's cross chested down by Meite for Obita to strike from the edge of the Huddersfield box - but the sweetly-struck left-footed effort was charged down before Lossl could be tested.

Harry Toffolo ran at the Royals back line soon after and his cross was headed away by Tom McIntyre with Steve Mounie lurking in the middle. And the Terriers soon started to find their rhythm, passing the ball well and getting into good positions in the final third but without testing Rafael.

Rafael was required after the drinks break, saving low from Smith-Rowe who had sprung the offside, scampered into space and into the Royals box, turning the ball onto his left foot but scuffing a shot straight at the Reading stopper.

Karlan Grant arrowed an effort over the bar from a good position and Grant tried his luck again, cutting in from the left but dragging a right-footed effort wide of the bottom left corner.

With ten minutes of the half remaining, Osho was found in space down the right and his first time cross picked out Obita just inside the box. His left foot took aim first time but the ball span wide of the left post.

Moments later, Lossl had to come off his line to deny Puscas who had darted onto a lovely throughball from Swift. The Town keeper stood up well and parried Puscas' dinked effort with his body before jumping to gather in the loose ball.

And Reading almost unlocked the Town defence three minutes before half-time; Andy Rinomhota lifting a ball over the top for Meite to charge onto - but as the ball dropped over his shoulder, the striker seemed to slip as he took aim with a first-time half-volley and the ball skidded through for a goal kick.

But the game remained goalless going into the break.

Grant at one end and then Meite at the other got early sighters at goal from range but failed to trouble the goalkeeper, before Swift's delicious inswinging free kick did cause concern in the Terriers area - only for the offside flag to go up as the ball bobbled around in the six yard box.

Rafael was off his line to punch clear a cross that looked destined for the head of Mounie, while Morrison was in the right place to cut out a low Grant cross from the right.

A sublime turn from Swift allowed him to send Obita away down the left and his low cross was turned behind by a sliding Huddersfield defender at the near post. Lossl did enough to punch clear Swift's inswinging corner though. Then Meite rose high to connect with a Rinomhota cross, but he couldn't get a good enough connection to make it matter.

Osho did brilliantly to shepherd Grant away from a shootign position and then won the ball which began a Royals counter attack that culminated in Blackett crossing low towards Puscas - but the defender got to the ball first to clear the danger.

Skipper Swift ran back 40 yards to ensure Huddersfield didn't catch the Royals on the counter and his pass back was cleared off the toes of Grant by the alert Rafael.

Substitute Pritchard nearly broke the deadlock when he crossed from the right and the ball deflected off the blocking leg of Blackett and headed for the near post - again Rafael was alert to it, producing a reaction save to push it wide.

Swift blocked a shot from Pritchard as the visitors sought a late winner, but Mark Bowen threw on Garath McCleary and Lucas Boye in an attempt to steal victory for the hosts.

And it was the visitors who were running the clock down in trying to hold onto a point - which was secured when Michael Olise's left-footed strike was gobbled up by Lossl in the sixth minute of injury time.
