New season in just seven weeks’ time

The EFL have today confirmed that the Sky Bet Championship, League One and League Two seasons for 2020-21 will all begin on the weekend of Saturday 12th September 2020.

That means a short break of just seven and a half weeks for the Royals and most of our fellow Championship clubs, following the conclusion of the 2019-20 campaign on Wednesday.

The season is due to conclude on the 8th/9th May 2021, with the Play-Offs Finals in all three divisions due to take place across the Spring Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May.

The finer details are yet to be decided – in due course, we will receive information about any scheduled international weekends, the Christmas and Easter schedule, and any other factors. And we are also awaiting news of when ‘Fixture Release Day’ will be for the new season – one of the most eagerly anticipated dates in the whole calendar!

One season ends… another begins, with the points tallies reset and fresh hope that we can make it a memorable one.

Our short summer is set to be a busy one, but with a first fixture confirmed in the diary for Saturday 12th September to begin our new campaign, there is already a date on the horizon to get excited about.
