Striker adds an extra year with Royals
Reading FC Women are pleased to announce that Brooke Chaplen has signed a contact extension that keeps her at the club until June 2021.
Chaplen signed with Kelly Chambers’ Royals from Sunderland in 2017 and became the side’s top goalscorer that season. Chaplen has previously played for Portsmouth, Chelsea and Everton at club level and is capped for England at Under 19, 20 and 23’s.
“It’s nice to get the contract signed early and shows that the club are keen to keep me, which is great,” Chaplen said. “Obviously, I’ve had a few good years here at Reading and we’re still growing from when I first signed to now. Hopefully we can continue to press the top 3 teams, as we have done in the last few years.”
On her highlights since being with the club, Chaplen commented, “It’s been nice to take points off the big teams. There’s been a couple of times over the last few seasons where we have really pushed the top 3 clubs and taken points off them. It feels really good to compete with them. Hopefully that continues going forward.”
“I think it’s vital over the next season or two that we find ourselves in a cup final,” Chaplen said, on her ambitions as a Royal, going forward. “We were so close last season and unfortunately I was injured when we got to the semi-final of the FA Cup against West Ham, but for this club, I think we have the talent and the players that, on their day, can take any team. That’s what the FA Cup is about and I think that over the next two seasons, we’d be disappointed as a club not to get to a cup final. We have a lot of ambition and I’m so happy to be a part of it.”
Chaplen has been in great form this season, most recently scoring a vital goal in Reading’s midweek victory against West Ham at Adams Park.
The Royals’ next scheduled game at Adams Park is the antepenultimate home game of the season, against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday March 22nd. Tickets for this game and the final two home Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixtures against Liverpool and Chelsea are available here.
