Academy product puts pen to paper to set his sights on more first team football

We are pleased to announce that young defender Nelson Abbey, who is still in the second year of his scholarship at Reading, has put pen to paper on a professional contract with the Royals which keeps him at the club until the summer of 2022.

Abbey made his first team debut for the Royals in September; just a fortnight after celebrating his 17th birthday, he came off the bench in the Carabao Cup to become the 63rd young player to add his name to our Academy Honours Board.

On the international scene, Abbey was called into an England Under-17 squad last February to feature in wins over the Ukraine and Russia – and he was drafted into in an Under-18 training camp with the Three Lions earlier this year.

Meanwhile, we can confirm that 21-year-old Israeli centre-back Omri Luzon last week put pen to paper on a short-term contract with the club. The former Israeli youth international had been permitted to play a part in two Under-23s games with the club but will now join Mehmet Ali’s squad on a more permanent basis after signing a contract which keeps him at the club until June 2021.
