Kiwi international links up with Kelly Chambers’ side

We are very pleased to announce that goalkeeper Erin Nayler has penned a deal to join Reading FC Women.

Nayler, a regular between the posts for New Zealand, has spent the past three seasons representing Bordeaux and now joins Kelly Chambers’ side during our pre-season ahead of 2020-21.

She made a total of 40 league appearances in the Division 1 Féminine, the French top tier, and most recently helped Les Girondins to a third-place finish in 2019-20 – the club’s highest ever league finish.

Having cut her teeth in her native New Zealand, Nayler made her first move into Europe in 2016 – after impressing at the Olympic Games and keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Colombia in Belo Horizonte, it was French powerhouse Lyon who won the race for her signature.

After a loan spell spent away at Grenoble, Bordeaux became her home in 2017 – and so it remained until this summer, now that the Royals have offered Erin her first taste of football in the WSL.

On the international front, Nayler represented the Kiwis at the 2019 World Cup in France – and she’ll be hoping to be first choice when the next edition rolls around in 2023, when New Zealand and Australia will jointly host the competition.

Kelly Chambers, manager of Reading FC Women, said: “It is great to bring Erin to the club. She is an experienced goalkeeper who will add yet more strength to our goalkeeper group.

“She has played in major international tournaments and has experience of playing top club level, so to add those experiences and qualities to our group will bring great benefit.”
