Record caps holder Williams extends Reading stay

Fara Williams has signed a new contract with Reading FC Women, meaning the 35-year-old will continue her journey with the Royals for the 2019-20 season.

Fara has experienced top-flight Women’s football at a variety of clubs such as Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton and Arsenal.

She has travelled the world representing the Lionesses in World Cup competitions, European Championships, and featuring in the GB team for the 2012 London Olympics, Williams has accumulated over 160 caps for England, making her the most-capped England player of all time.

When asked what attracted her to Reading in the first place, Williams explained: “Watching Reading when I was at Arsenal, Arsenal won 1-0 but you know the style that reading played attracted me to them.

“As long as I’m not slipping off and letting the team or myself down I will continue to go and I’m honoured to sign another contract and very grateful that Kelly has given me an opportunity to keep playing.

"I’ve learnt a lot, there’s still a lot to learn and there’s still a little bit left in these legs.”

Fara is currently sitting top of the table for goals scored at Reading this season, with a total of 18 in league and cup competitions.

Williams will be hoping to add to her tally this Saturday as the Royals host Chelsea at Adams Park for their last game of the season.

Kelly Chambers' side have enjoyed another fantastic season in 2018-19, with 5th place already secured in the WSL 1, alongside a run to the FA Cup Semi-Finals.
