Reading Football Club can confirm that striker Andy Carroll has triggered a release clause in his contract to terminate his deal with the Royals with immediate effect.
Carroll’s contract, which was due to expire in the summer of 2024, included a clause which permitted him to leave the club for pastures new this summer. That clause has now been activated.
Across two separate spells spent at the club during the last two years, the 34-year-old forward made 32(+10) appearances in blue and white hoops, scoring 11 goals for the club.
In 2023-24, Carroll played the full ninety minutes in our defeats to Peterborough United and Port Vale at the start of the season but has not featured under Ruben Selles since that opening week of our League One campaign.
Everyone at Reading Football Club would like to thank Andy for his contribution to the club and wish him the very best of luck in his next challenge and in his future endeavours.
