Bio

The 18-year-old defender rose through the ranks in the Academy at LAFC before starting training with the Royals in the second half of the 2021-22 season. He made the move to Reading a permanent deal in the summer.

He featured in both friendlies at the Select Car Leasing Stadium ahead of the 2023-24 season, coming off the bench against Swansea City and Southampton.

Sport runs in the family for Tyler, with both his mum and dad representing New Zealand in their respective sports.

His mum, Jenny, made 77 appearances in goal for New Zealand between 2004 and 2014, whilst his dad Grant was captain of the nation’s volleyball team.

Bindon was first called up to the USA under-19 squad in April 2022, and debuted in March of this year when they travelled to Argentina for a training camp.

He made his first appearance for his nation against Argentina, and earned his second cap four days later in a game against Racing Club de Avellaneda.

Tyler made his debut for Reading in the dominant 4-0 win away at Millwall in the Carabao Cup, before making his league bow a week later against Cheltenham Town, keeping a clean sheet as Rubén Sellés picked up a first league win as Royals boss.

Despite representing the USA at youth level, Bindon made the decision to represent New Zealand, being called up to the senior squad for the first time aged just 18 for friendlies against DR Congo and Australia in October 2023.
