Bio

Tony Warner joined the Royals as First Team goalkeeping coach in July 2022, linking up with Paul Ince for the third time in his career, having been a teammate at Liverpool and on Ince’s coaching staff at Blackpool.

Warner came through the ranks at his hometown club Liverpool in the early 1990s, where he spent two years with Ince. Whilst with the Reds he spent time out on loan at Swindon Town, where he kept a clean sheet on his Football League debut, before featuring in the SPL in brief temporary moves to Celtic and Aberdeen.

He departed Anfield in 1999 for the capital and helped Millwall to the third tier play-offs in 2000 before being the Lions’ No.1 when they won the division in 2002, and earned the club's Player of the Season award in 2003. He went on to make over 200 appearances for the club as well as helping them reach the 2004 FA Cup Final in his six years at the Den.

After a season with Cardiff City, he joined Premier League Fulham on loan and kept a clean sheet on his Premier League bow against Birmingham City as well as extending enhancing his penalty-saving reputation from his time at Millwall when he denied Lauren from the spot when the Cottagers faced Arsenal at Highbury.

He joined Fulham permanently in January 2006 and made his international debut a month later fpr Trinidad & Tobago, before loan spells with Leeds United, Norwich City and Barnsley, joining Hull City permanently in 2008.

During his time on Humberside, he had a loan spell with Leicester City where he helped the Foxes win the League One title in 2008-09.

Stints with Charlton Athletic, a return to Leeds, Scunthorpe United and Tranmere Rovers followed before he joined A-League side Wellington Phoenix.

Following time in Malta with Floriana, he was reunited with Ince when he joined Blackpool in 2013 in a player-coach role.

His experience led to him continuing in this capacity in two spells with Accrington Stanley, either side of time in India coaching with Chennaiyin.

Having also coached at Bolton Wanderers in 2021, Warner became goalkeeping coach at Bristol Rovers as Joey Barton’s side earned promotion to League One before linking up a year later with the Royals.

Despite Ince's departure in April 2022, he remained at the Royals, continuing in his role when Rubén Sellés took over as manager in July 2023.
