Wing was available after the expiration of his contract with Wycombe Wanderers in the summer of 2023 – and he chose to move to Reading for the next chapter of his career.

After being released by Darlington as a youngster, the midfielder earned his stripes in the rigours of non-League football in England’s north east. Tow Law Town, Seaham Red Star and Newton Aycliffe all benefitted from his services, before an especially prolific two-year spell with Shildon – with which he won the Northern League title – saw him scouted by Middlesbrough.

He signed his first deal at the Riverside in the summer of 2017, and got his first taste of action for Boro soon after in the Carabao Cup and Checkatrade Trophy. It was down south with Yeovil Town that he would get his first taste of League football, joining the then-League Two side on loan for the second half of 2017-18.

Returning to Teesside in the summer with three goals and 19(+3) appearances under his belt for the Glovers, he penned a new contract and immediately began to make an impact in his first Championship involvements.

His senior league debut for Boro came at Millwall – coming off the bench to help his side grab two goals in the final four minutes to earn a 2-2 draw. Three days later, he marked his first start by providing a pair of assists in a 3-0 home win against Sheffield United.

Wing finished his breakthrough season with five goals to his name – the last of which came against Reading in a 2-1 win on Teesside as Middlesbrough just missed out on a play-off spot. And while the season that followed was less successful in the league standings for Middlesbrough, Lewis established himself as a regular with 41 appearances and seven goals in all competitions.

He swapped North Yorkshire for South Yorkshire midway through the 2020-21 campaign, joining Rotherham United on loan for the rest of the campaign. The first half of the next season was spent on loan at Sheffield Wednesday – and midway through the season, Wycombe Wanderers made a permanent move to bring him to Adams Park. His contributions helped the Chairboys to reach Wembley in the League One play-off final; his appearance from the bench couldn’t prevent Sunderland from sealing promotion.

After a 48-game season with Wycombe in 2022-23, he swapped Buckinghamshire for Berkshire to join the Royals.
