Bio

Australian goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis joined the Royals in the summer of 2022, agreeing a three-year contract.

The 31-year-old began his career following impressing on trial at Rafa Benitez’s Liverpool - and following a loan spell back in his homeland with Sydney FC, he made his debut in English football as a substitute for loan team Accrington Stanley in a 2-2 FA Cup tie with Barnet in November 2009.

His league debut came a month later, where he kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 win at Burton Albion; he made 19 appearances during his time at the Crown Ground.

Following three years at Anfield, he stayed in the North West with Oldham Athletic and firmly established himself as their number one in 2012-13 and even played in a famous 3-2 win over the Reds at Boundary Park in the FA Cup Fourth Round.

Being of Greek heritage, he joined Aris Thessaloniki - but after limited game time he return to England with Carlisle United, before a six-year spell back in his native Australia.

Following a two-season spell with Western Sydney Wanderers, where he won the 2014 AFC Champions League, he signed for Melbourne City.

Winning the 2016 Australia Cup, he was Melbourne’s number one either side of a loan spell back in Europe with Dutch side PEC Zwolle.

He returned to England in 2020 to join Sutton United and played every game as the Yellows earned promotion to the Football League for the first time in their 123-year history, going up as champions with Bouzanis ever-present.

In 2021-22 Bouzanis featured 53 times as the South London side narrowly missed out on a League Two Play-Off spot by a point, and also went to Wembley in the EFL Trophy.

He made crucial saves in the semi-final shoot-out to secure his side their first trip to Wembley as they defeated Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium before losing in extra time to Rotherham United under the arch.

Following the expiration of his Sutton contract, Bouzanis headed west to join up with the Royals ahead of the 2022-23 campaign. The shot-stopper made eight appearances in his first season with the Berkshire outfit.

Early in the 2023-24 campaign, Bouzanis opted to make a loan move back to Gander Green Lane to link up with his old side Sutton for the season.
