A special visit from El Gato

Royals first team goalkeeper Joel Pereira visited Alder Grove Church of England Primary School earlier this season to say a big thank you for their continued support in the School & Grassroots scheme.

At October's Sky Bet League One tie with Crawley Town, pupils and their families bought the highest number of tickets for any school involved in the scheme, and our Portuguese shot-stopper wanted to say a big thank you in person.

To say thank you for their incredible support, Joel was delighted to present Deputy Head Teacher Rachel Roedel with a commemorative football signed by the First Team!

Speaking of the impact of the player appearances in the community, Joel said: "It's very important for us to be a presence in the community. It doesn't cost us anything, and for myself I always find it nice to visit young kids, elderly people, and those who are in need. It's important for us as a club to help in these ways, and Reading as a club has been top drawer with that"

Head Teacher of Alder Grove, Philip Theobald, commented: "We were delighted to welcome Joel to our school. As a new school in the local area, we are very proud of our links with both the Community Trust and the Football Club, and we look forward to continuing to work with both entities in the future."
