U’s to visit SCL for midweek meeting in December

We can confirm that our Sky Bet League One meeting with Oxford United has been rearranged to take place on Tuesday 12 December 2023, kicking off at 8pm at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

The fixture was initially scheduled to take place this coming weekend on Saturday 14 October – however the game was postponed owing to several international call-ups.

We have met 34 times in competitive action since our first encounter back in 1965… but our most recent game against the U’s was nearly two decades ago, when Shaun Goater and Andy Hughes settled a Carabao Cup tie in our favour at the Kassam Stadium back in August 2004.

So our 35th clash with Oxford will have to wait a little longer – we will open the doors to our supporters for a midweek meeting on Tuesday 12 December.

Tickets will go on sale again in due course; any tickets purchased for the original date on Saturday 14 October remain valid for this fixture. Head to ticketing.readingfc.co.uk to purchase tickets for our upcoming home and away fixtures.

Please note carefully that the FA Cup second round takes place over the weekend of Saturday 2 December, and should either Reading or Oxford require a second-round replay, the replay would take priority over the league fixture and consequently take place on or around Tuesday 12 December.

Therefore we have pre-arranged with Oxford United and the EFL that, in the instance that either side requires an FA Cup second-round replay, our league fixture against Oxford United would automatically be pushed back by one week and instead take place on Tuesday 19 December (8pm).

The FA Cup first-round draw takes place this Sunday 15 October at 2.30pm on ITV. We will enter the competition at this stage, along with the other 47 sides from across Leagues One and Two and the 32 winners of the fourth qualifying round. We will confirm our ball number for the draw when it is issued by the FA.
