Knockout rounds start on home turf...

Reading have been drawn at home against Charlton Athletic in the Round of 32 in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.

As group winners, a home tie was guaranteed for the Royals - and we had four potential opponents to face as runners up of their respective groups in the southern section.

The draw was made this evening live on Sky Sports News, as Jermaine Beckford and Clinton Morrison were given the responsibility of drawing the balls from the hat.

Our Trophy campaign has been noteworthy. It all started with a 9-0 win in Exeter, followed closely by a 5-0 home victory over neighbours Swindon, before a 5-2 victory against an Arsenal U21 side in what was effectively a shootout for top spot.

19 goals scored, two conceded... quite a record in the group! But now we're into knockout territory - 90 minutes of football stands between us and the last 16.

Meanwhile our visitors Charlton finished runners-up in their group; defeat in the first game in Crawley was followed by wins over Sutton United and Aston Villa U21 in order to secure passage in second place.

Our Round of 32 fixture is scheduled to take place during the week commencing Monday 4 December 2023. The precise date and time of the fixture will be agreed and announced in due course, as will ticketing information for the match.
