Reading have it all to do next week, in a must-win game against Tottenham next Saturday afternoon. After a difficult loss to Aston Villa last Sunday, Royals Manager Kelly Chambers shared an insight into the full-time conversations which took place in the dressing room straight after full-time, and the mood in camp after the first week of preparations for next weekend.

“Last Sunday, it was nowhere near good enough.

“Going into the game, our standard is training was good, but it counts for nothing if we don’t deliver in the game.

“We all want to get out of this fight and stay in this league for next season, and that’s what we all discussed postgame on Sunday between everyone.

“So yes, Sunday was disappointing, as we identified this moment as a window of opportunity to get points out of the game, but it didn’t happen.

“The conversations at full-time were open, honest and to the point. It gave the players the opportunity to speak on the game and the situation while the emotions were still there, because I feel having a conversation a day or two later things can get forgotten, and when we come back into training we just want to focus on the upcoming game, with no other distractions.

“Players ended up talking about taking accountability for their performance, and what they are now expecting from one another till the end of the season.

“As we can talk about the Villa game, and of course we’ll have analysis sessions to do so, but the moment all together was just how we’re going to move forward.

“Obviously the two remaining games, we have a lot to do, but anyone who supports football knows anything can happen.

“We have two weeks to prepare, before the first of two big games, and we’ve tried this week to keep things positive, intense and begin implementing the details each player needs going into Tottenham.

“We’re not looking at Chelsea yet, as a lot of results can either go for us or against us, but we are only focused on what we can control and that starts with Tottenham.

“We need to throw everything into each day between now and then, it’s been a good start this week, and we will continue to build next week going into Sunday.

“There’s no place for us to hide now, but we’re all in it together, and will be right until the very end.”
