Crowds of over 5,000 expected for Royals’ clash with Red Devils

Almost 11 months ago, Reading FC Women set a new stadium record for a competitive fixture of 1,500 fans against this Sunday’s opposition, Manchester United.

With just two days to go till the big day, we are expecting to welcome more than triple that number, with over 5,000 people heading down to the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

As the Lionesses’ were crowned European Champions last summer, many hoped that that this Women’s Super League season would record some of the highest attendance figures to date, and evidence would certainly suggest that has been the case.

As well as many other clubs across the Barclays WSL recording record figures, the Royals have also seen a huge rise with both Season Ticket Sales up from 99 to just shy of 700, and already two record crowds in back-to-back home games.

After a rescheduled meeting with Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Women’s Continental Cup was the first game in RG2 for Reading FC Women. Just over 2,000 fans came to watch Chambers’ side push the North London club all the way but were just beaten 2-1.

Next followed another meeting with the red side of North London, as Jonas Eidevall’s Arsenal came to Berkshire. Despite the unfriendly weather, just over 3,660 fans came along to show their support, as Reading went toe-to-toe and narrowly lost 1-0.

Sunday will be the first of two clashes between Reading FC and Manchester United, as the Women’s team are in Barclays WSL action, then six days later the Men’s team travel to Old Trafford in the FA Cup.
