Hear from Andy Carroll on his new deal, number 2, and the Royals season so far
The Royals forward sat down to talk about the positive atmosphere around Bearwood Park and why he’s happy in the blue and white hoops.
The former Newcastle and West Ham play put pen to paper on a deal that keeps him in RG2 until 2024. And the forward said he’s happy to be here and keen to set an example for the younger players.
“I’m absolutely delighted!" he said. "It’s something I’ve obviously wanted since I signed. With the club’s situation I couldn’t sign for the whole season initially and it’s good to get it signed now. Obviously it's the second time I’ve been here. I loved it the first time. The minute I stepped through the doors it’s somewhere I wanted to stay. I’m absolutely delighted the manager and the club have put their trust in me.
“I think that’s kind of where I am in the dressing room. I hope the lads look at me like that – whether I’m there for advice or help or whatever they need along the way. It’s a long season and I’m here if anyone needs me.”

Carroll was all smiles when asked about his shirt number - with the goal-getter opting for the number '2' shirt this season.
He continued: “It was my kids that picked it – my daughter was two the day I signed so it meant something to us as a family. I’m here now for another season. It’s brilliant!
“The fans have been absolutely fantastic since the minute I’ve signed. At the games, even just walking around the local area, and also on social media. I’ve read everything, I’ve heard it all and they’ve been great. Listening to them chant my name at games… it’s brilliant.
“I was watching the FA Cup draw with my missus and I said straight away, ‘United away would be perfect’ - and it popped up! Straight away the boys were messaging each other and it’s a great one to go to and get stuck in. Hopefully we can get a result.”
