Talented defender signs a short-term deal with the Royals Under-21 side
Reading Football Club are pleased to welcome defender Matthew Carson into our Under-21 squad after the 20-year-old signed a short-term contract with the Royals following a successful trial period with the club.
The versatile left-sided defender links up with Noel Hunt’s side on a contract that will see him pull on the blue and white hoops until the end of the season - after he impressed in the recent Premier League Cup game against Arsenal U21s.
The 20-year-old scored a brilliant goal in that match, a strike from distance that arrowed into the top corner as Reading took the Gunners to extra-time in a closely-contested cup tie away from home.
Carson, who came through the youth ranks with Burnley, is not registered in our 25-man first-team squad for the remainder of this season - so he will be available for selection as an Under-21 in the Professional Development League until the end of the current campaign.
Meanwhile, Wales youth international midfielder Benjamin Purcell has been recalled from a Youth Loan at Farnborough FC and is now registered as a Reading U21 player once again.
