Wales international adds 3 years with Royals

Reading FC Women are incredibly pleased to announce that Rachel Rowe has signed a new contract that sees her remaining a Royal until June 2024.

Rowe has been with the club since February 2015 and was part of the team that won promotion to the FA Barclays Women’s Super League later that year, seeing the side become professional in the process.

Rowe showed colossal commitment in her early days at Reading, commuting from Swansea to train with the team; a huge 300-mile round trip while maintaining a job in her native Wales. Things changed, however, upon entry to the top-flight of women’s football and the subsequent professional contract.

Rowe has had a standout season in 2020-21, which has seen her become the side’s joint-top goal-scorer, netting 4 times during the campaign so far, as well as celebrating her 100th appearance back in November.

Manager Kelly Chambers, who signed Rowe from Swansea City six years ago, said, “I am delighted that Rowey has committed her future to Reading. She is a player that has developed so much over the years, on and off the pitch. Even though she has had an up-and-down season with illness and injury, I believe 2020-21 has been some of her best football yet. What is exciting, is I know there is still more to come. Rowey has grown a love for this club like many of the others and has become a big part of it. I’m excited to keep working with Rowey and to see what else there is to come.”

Reading FC Women are next in action on Saturday when they travel to The Academy Stadium to take on title challengers Manchester City Women for a 5:30pm kick-off. All the action is live on the BBC Red Button service, BBC iPlayer, the BBC Sport website and the FA Player.
